UP Court Acquits SP Leader Azam Khan in 2019 Poll Code Violation Case

In a significant legal development, Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan was acquitted on Wednesday by an MP-MLA court in a poll code violation case dating back to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The case revolved around allegations that Khan, then a candidate, violated election protocols by driving his vehicle too close to a polling station to cast his vote.

During the 2019 elections, regulations prohibited vehicles from approaching within a 200-meter radius of polling stations. Khan was accused of breaching this rule, which led to the registration of an FIR by then SDM P P Tiwari.

Mohammad Mursaleen, Khan’s lawyer, stated, “The trial was conducted in the honorable court where five witnesses were presented. However, the prosecution failed completely to establish the veracity of the allegations. Consequently, the court has acquitted Azam Khan, recognizing the case as unfounded.”
