In a significant development, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has earmarked Rs.123.75 crore for the expansion of the Supreme Court building in the latest Union Budget announced on Saturday for the fiscal year 2025-26. This allocation marks a substantial increase from the previous year’s budget, where Rs.46.63 crore was designated for the same purpose.
During her budget speech, the Finance Minister highlighted, “Expansion of Supreme Court building: The provision is for implementation of the central sector project expansion of the Supreme Court building.” This initiative is aimed at improving the infrastructure of the Supreme Court to enhance judicial efficiency and capacity.
The allocated funds will be utilized to expand courtroom facilities, administrative offices, and the overall ability of the judiciary to handle cases more effectively. The project is set to incorporate modern infrastructure, integrate advanced technological systems, and provide a more efficient working environment for the judiciary and legal professionals.
This budgetary increase reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to fortifying the judiciary and ensuring more accessible and swift justice delivery. The enhancement of facilities is expected to address the growing caseload of the Supreme Court and aid in the faster resolution of cases, streamlining judicial processes significantly.
