Uncle Syndrome Cure, Live Streaming, Demands Allahabad HC Bar Association While Suspending Strike

Allahabad, July 12, 2024 โ€” In a significant development, the Executive Body of the High Court Bar Association, Allahabad, convened a meeting at 1:00 PM today in the New Office Bearer Room of the High Court Bar Association. The meeting, presided over by Shri Anil Tiwari, Senior Advocate and President of the Bar Association, and convened by Hony. Secretary Shri Vikrant Pandey, saw the attendance of several key office bearers and members of the governing council.

The meeting resulted in several unanimous decisions aimed at addressing recent grievances and improving the association’s operations.

Key Resolutions and Decisions

Suspension of Strike

The primary outcome of the meeting was the decision to suspend the ongoing agitation with immediate effect. This decision followed a positive assurance from Hon’ble the Chief Justice to address the demands of the High Court Bar Association. The Chief Justice had already initiated the first step towards resolving these issues. The association expressed its faith in the Chief Justice and other judges, believing that their grievances would be duly considered and rectified. The members are requested to resume work from Monday, July 15, 2024.

Membership and A.O.R. Applications

The association resolved that new members would be eligible to apply for the Advocate-on-Record (A.O.R.) status only after completing one year of membership. Additionally, applicants must submit a certificate from a senior advocate with at least 15 years of experience.

Recommendations for Judicial Appointments

Another critical resolution was a request to the Chief Justice of India and the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court to refrain from recommending advocates for judicial appointments in the Allahabad High Court unless they have practiced in the Allahabad High Court or its Lucknow Bench. The association emphasized that such advocates often lack familiarity with the unique traditions and conditions of Uttar Pradesh, leading to complications and resentment.

Addressing the “Uncle Syndrome”

The association expressed concern over the “Uncle Syndrome” or favoritism based on familial connections within the judiciary. They urged the Chief Justice of India to take effective measures to strengthen the institution by addressing this issue.

Clarification on Recent Statements

The association clarified that recent statements made during the agitation were not directed against the entire judiciary but targeted specific judges whose actions were deemed inappropriate.

Live Streaming of Court Proceedings

The association also resolved to push for the live streaming of court hearings under camera in every court of the Allahabad High Court as soon as possible.

Membership Enrollments

Lastly, the association resolved that advocates who had applied for membership and had been recommended by the Interview Committee would be enrolled as members of the High Court Bar Association under Rule 7(e) of the Byelaws.

Future Meetings

The Executive Body decided to reconvene on July 29, 2024, to assess the situation and make further decisions if necessary.
