Two Advocates Sworn In as Judges of Allahabad High Court

Advocates Amitabh Rai and Rajiv Lochan Shukla were sworn in as Additional Judges of the Allahabad High Court on Monday. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice Arun Bhansali in a ceremony held in the Chief Justice’s Courtroom.

The appointments were notified by the Central Government’s Ministry of Law and Justice on September 5, 2025. With the elevation of these two advocates, the working strength of the Allahabad High Court has risen to 95 judges against a sanctioned strength of 160.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by other judges of the High Court, senior advocates, members of the High Court Bar Association, and other dignitaries.

Prior to their elevation, both Justice Amitabh Rai and Justice Rajiv Lochan Shukla were practicing advocates at the Allahabad High Court, specializing in various legal domains. Their appointments are expected to help in managing the extensive caseload of one of the country’s oldest and largest High Courts.
