Telangana High Court Upholds Death Sentence in Child Rape and Murder Case

In a solemn ruling, the Telangana High Court confirmed the death sentence for Dinesh Kumar Dharne, a 23-year-old laborer, for the rape and murder of a five-year-old girl in December 2017. The decision upholds the earlier judgment of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge (MSJ) Court in Rangareddy, which had sentenced Dharne in February 2021.

Dharne, originally from Madhya Pradesh, was convicted under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act), IPC section 302 (murder), and other relevant provisions. His appeal against the MSJ court’s verdict was dismissed by the High Court, confirming the capital punishment as just.

The case details reveal a harrowing act where Dharne lured the young girl into nearby bushes under the guise of offering chocolates, subsequently raping and murdering her by striking her head with a boulder. This brutal incident led to his arrest shortly after the crime.
