In a significant relief for Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, the Telangana High Court on Thursday quashed a criminal case registered against him under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The FIR, filed in 2016 at Gachibowli police station, named Revanth Reddy as Accused No. 3. The complainant, linked to the SC Mutually Aided Cooperative Housing Society Limited, had alleged that Reddy had instigated his brother, Kondal Reddy, and others to illegally trespass on the Society’s land in Gopanpally village. The group allegedly demolished two rooms using an earth-moving machine with the intention of forcibly occupying the property. The complaint further accused the individuals of making caste-based derogatory remarks.
In 2020, Reddy approached the High Court seeking to quash the FIR, arguing that he was not present at the site of the alleged incident and that the charges were baseless.

After reserving its order earlier, the High Court accepted Reddy’s petition. The court held that the prosecution had failed to furnish any evidence connecting Reddy to the alleged criminal acts and casteist remarks, thereby warranting the quashing of proceedings.
