The Telangana High Court on Tuesday rejected a legal attempt to halt the release of ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’, thereby permitting the film’s debut on its scheduled date of December 5. The petition, lodged by Sararapu Srisailam of Secunderabad, claimed that the sequel might glorify illegal activities akin to those depicted in its predecessor, ‘Pushpa: The Rise’, which centered on red sanders smuggling.
Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya dismissed the claims as speculative, pointing out the lack of substantive evidence beyond the movie’s teaser. The court highlighted the potential financial damages and disruptions to the film industry that could arise from halting the film’s release.
Furthermore, Justice Bhattacharya criticized the misuse of judicial resources represented by the petition and imposed a financial penalty on Srisailam. The penalty amount is directed to organizations that support trafficked women and children. “The petition lacks merit and wastes the valuable time of the judiciary,” stated Justice Bhattacharya during the ruling.
Deputy Solicitor General Gadi Praveen Kumar, speaking for the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), affirmed that the film had undergone careful review and was approved after making five suggested modifications. Kumar reassured the court that ‘Pushpa 2’ adheres to all applicable legal standards set by the Cinematography Act, concluding that there were no grounds to support the petition’s claims.
