The Supreme Court on Monday refused to interfere with a Bombay High Court ruling that cancelled bail granted to three key operators of a Goa nightclub where a major fire claimed 25 lives in December 2025.
A bench comprising Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Sheel Nagu dismissed the appeals filed by Saurav Luthra, Gaurav Luthra, and their business partner Ajay Gupta. The top court ordered all three men to surrender within a fortnight while directing the lower court to fast-track the trial proceedings.
High Court Scrutiny and Bail Revocation
The ruling comes after the Bombay High Court on August 18 overturned an April decision by a trial court that had granted bail to the trio. The state government of Goa had contested that relief, prompting the High Court to direct the accused to turn themselves in before the sessions court within two weeks.
In setting aside the trial court’s order, the High Court held that the lower court had overlooked key investigative findings gathered by authorities. The High Court also rejected the trial judge’s reasoning that the offense was less grave than crimes such as murder or dacoity.
Tragedy at Arpora Venue
The three accused operated the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Arpora through their partnership firm, M/s Being GS Hospitality Arpora LLP.
A massive blaze swept through the establishment on December 6, 2025, leaving 25 people dead and 50 others injured.
