The Supreme Court on Friday reserved its order on a batch of pleas seeking permission to manufacture and sell green firecrackers in the Delhi-NCR region.
A bench comprising Chief Justice B R Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran heard arguments from various stakeholders, including the Centre and representatives of state governments in the National Capital Region, before reserving its verdict.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the NCR states, urged the court to allow the bursting of green firecrackers on festive occasions such as Diwali, Guru Parv and Christmas. He requested that there should be no time restrictions on their use during these celebrations.

The matter holds significance as Delhi and adjoining areas have been facing stringent restrictions on the manufacture, sale and use of firecrackers due to recurring episodes of severe air pollution during the winter months.
The court’s decision, once pronounced, is expected to impact both the firecracker industry and the regulatory framework governing festive celebrations in the region.
