Supreme Court Reserves Decision on Manish Sisodia’s Bail in Delhi Excise Policy ‘Scam’

The Supreme Court of India has reserved its judgment on the bail applications of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia, relating to corruption and money laundering charges in the alleged Delhi excise policy scam. This decision followed intense deliberations after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) presented arguments strongly opposing Sisodia’s release.

The controversy centers around accusations that Sisodia, who previously served as Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister, was deeply involved in irregularities linked to the formulation and implementation of the Delhi government’s excise policy. The ED, citing substantial documentary evidence, claimed Sisodia’s “neck-deep involvement” in these alleged infractions.

Sisodia’s legal team argued for bail on the grounds of prolonged incarceration without trial commencement. He has been detained for over 17 months since his initial arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on February 26, 2023. The ED subsequently apprehended him on March 9, 2023, based on findings from the CBI’s investigation.
