The Supreme Court on Friday declined to entertain a petition challenging the NEET-UG 2025 results, which alleged an error in one of the questions, citing the widespread impact on lakhs of candidates and reiterating its earlier stance on similar pleas.
A bench comprising Justices P.S. Narasimha and R. Mahadevan stated that it had already dismissed an identical petition two days earlier and could not interfere in examinations of such a massive scale based on individual grievances.
“We have dismissed identical matters. We agree there might be multiple correct answers. But we cannot interfere in an exam which is given by lakhs of candidates. It’s not an individual’s case. Thousands of students will be affected,” the bench observed.
The petitioner, a NEET-UG 2025 candidate, had sought correction of the alleged mistake in the answer key and a consequent revision of the results. The plea had also sought a stay on the ongoing counselling process for admissions to medical colleges.
The bench, however, declined to intervene, effectively clearing the way for the continuation of the counselling process.
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and is the sole entrance examination for undergraduate medical courses across India.
