The Supreme Court of India has issued a circular prohibiting photography and videography inside its High Security Zone, except for official purposes. The guidelines, notified on September 10, 2025, came into immediate effect.
Key Restrictions
- Photography and Videography Ban: No individual is permitted to take photographs or videos inside the High Security Zone, save for official use.
- Media Access Shifted: Media interviews and live news broadcasts must be conducted only in the designated lawn located in the Low Security Zone.
- No Mobile Phone Recording: The use of mobile phones for photography or videography is prohibited in the lawn of the High Security Zone.
- Equipment Restrictions: Cameras, tripods, selfie sticks, and similar devices for photography, videography, reels, or other recordings are banned inside the High Security Zone, except for official purposes.
Disciplinary Action for Violations
- Advocates, Litigants, Interns, and Law Clerks: Concerned Bar Associations or State Bar Councils have been directed to take action under their rules against violators.
- Media Personnel: Violations will result in restricted access to the High Security Zone for one month.
- Registry Staff: Any violation will be treated seriously, with disciplinary action recommended by the violator’s department head.
The circular further authorizes security personnel to disallow any individual, including staff members, advocates, or others, from taking photographs or making videos inside the High Security Zone.
