Supreme Court Invites Applications for Law Clerk-cum-Research Associates 2026–27 Term; Remuneration ₹1,00,000 Per Month

The Supreme Court of India has issued an official notification inviting online applications from eligible candidates for engagement as Law Clerk-cum-Research Associates for the assignment term 2026-2027.

The Registry has announced that the recruitment will be conducted under the Scheme for Engaging Law Clerk-cum-Research Associates on Short-Term Contractual Assignment in the Supreme Court of India (January 2024, as amended). A panel of approximately 90 candidates will be prepared for engagement on a purely contractual basis.

Remuneration and Term

Selected candidates will be entitled to a consolidated remuneration of ₹1,00,000 (Rupees One Lakh) per month. The assignment is for the term 2026-2027, and the engagement is full-time and contractual in nature.

The notification clarifies that the engagement does not confer any right or claim to regular appointment or continuance in service in the Supreme Court of India. Furthermore, Law Clerks will not be permitted to accept any other assignment or practice as an Advocate in any court of law during the tenure of their engagement.

Eligibility Criteria

1. Educational Qualification: Candidates must be a Law Graduate (having passed a Bachelor’s Degree in Law) or a candidate appearing in the final year examination of the 5-year Integrated Law Course or the 3-year Law Course.

  • Note: Final year students are eligible to apply subject to furnishing proof of acquiring the Law qualification at the time of the interview or before taking up the assignment.
  • The degree must be from any School/College/University/Institution established by law in India and recognized by the Bar Council of India for enrollment as an Advocate.

2. Age Limit: Candidates must not be below the age of 20 years and not above 32 years as of February 7, 2026.

3. Skills Required: The notification emphasizes that candidates must possess research and analytical skills, writing ability, and knowledge of computers, including retrieval of desired information from various search engines and legal research platforms such as e-SCR, Manupatra, SCC Online, LexisNexis, Westlaw, etc.

Selection Process

The selection will be made based on a written examination and an interview. The written test is scheduled to be held on March 7, 2026. The Registry retains the discretion to shortlist candidates based on their performance and qualifications.

The engagement is subject to the Registry’s power to terminate the contract at any point in time in accordance with the prescribed notice requirements.
