Background and Current Progress

The proceedings stem from pleas raised regarding the accuracy and verification of voter lists in West Bengal. To ensure a transparent and error-free electoral roll, a Special Intensive Revision was initiated.

The High Court reported that the verification process has reached a “significant milestone.” The administrative machinery is currently processing between 1.75 lakh and 2 lakh objections daily, showcasing an accelerated pace to meet upcoming electoral requirements.

Timeline for Completion

The Counsel appearing for the High Court informed the apex court that the remaining objections are on track to be resolved by April 7. This intensive exercise aims to eliminate discrepancies such as duplicate entries or the inclusion of ineligible voters, thereby maintaining the sanctity of the democratic process in the region.
