The Supreme Court on Friday declined to entertain a plea by Karnataka Congress MLA T D Rajegowda, who sought intervention against vague allegations made by a BJP leader in an election petition. Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan presided over the case, suggesting that Rajegowda should address his grievances at the Karnataka High Court during the election petition proceedings.
The allegations, brought forward by BJP’s D N Jeevaraja, pertained to the use of black money and other unspecified claims during Rajegowda’s campaign for the Sringeri assembly seat in Chikmagalur district during the 2023 elections. Senior advocate Shyam Divan, representing Rajegowda, argued that the accusations were baseless and lacked evidence.
The bench noted that while the allegations initially raised concerns due to their vague nature, the legal process allows for evidence to be presented during the ongoing proceedings at the high court. The justices referred to their previous decision on September 27, 2024, which allowed Rajegowda the opportunity to contest the allegations at an appropriate stage in the high court.
