The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the transfer of Mr. Justice Arindam Sinha, currently a Judge at the High Court of Orissa (PHC: Calcutta), to the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad. This decision was made during meetings held on March 6 and March 20, 2025.
About Justice Arindam Sinha
Justice Arindam Sinha is currently serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court, a position he assumed on January 20, 2025, following the retirement of Chief Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh. Born on September 22, 1965, he was enrolled as an Advocate in 1991 and practiced primarily in civil, commercial, arbitration, and constitutional law for over two decades before his judicial elevation.

He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Calcutta High Court on October 30, 2013, and became a permanent Judge on March 14, 2016. In October 2021, he transferred to the Orissa High Court. Justice Sinha is notable for being the senior-most puisne Judge at the Orissa High Court and is ranked 42nd in the combined seniority list of High Court Judges across India. He is expected to retire on September 21, 2027.
Justice Sinha’s transfer is part of a broader initiative by the Collegium, which has recommended changes for several judges across various high courts in India. The move aims to enhance judicial efficiency and ensure a balanced distribution of judicial resources among different high courts.
This recommendation reflects the Collegium’s ongoing efforts to address judicial appointments and transfers, ensuring that judges are positioned where their expertise can be most effectively utilized.
