Supreme Court Collegium Recommends Return of Justice Atul Sreedharan to Madhya Pradesh High Court

The Supreme Court Collegium has decided to repatriate Justice Atul Sreedharan to the Madhya Pradesh High Court from his current position at the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. This decision was made in a meeting held on March 6, 2025, marking a significant shift in Justice Sreedharan’s judicial assignments.

Justice Sreedharan, who began his judicial career at the Madhya Pradesh High Court on April 7, 2016, had requested a transfer in early 2023. His move was prompted by his desire to prevent any conflict of interest as his elder daughter was set to begin her legal practice in the same jurisdiction, potentially appearing before the District Court and the Indore Bench of the High Court.

Acknowledging the importance of maintaining judicial integrity, the Collegium initially facilitated his transfer to the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh on March 28, 2023. However, the recent decision to send him back to his parent High Court indicates a reassessment of his situation or the needs of the courts.
