New Delhi, May 26, 2025 — In a significant development, the Supreme Court Collegium, in its meeting held on May 26, 2025, has recommended the elevation of five High Court judges to serve as Chief Justices in various High Courts across the country.
According to the official statement, the Collegium — headed by Chief Justice of India — approved the following recommendations:
Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, presently serving in the Madhya Pradesh High Court, has been recommended for appointment as the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

Justice Vibhu Bakhru, currently a judge of the Delhi High Court, is proposed to take over as the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court.
Justice Ashutosh Kumar of the Patna High Court is recommended to assume charge as the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court.
Justice Vipul Manubhai Pancholi, originally from the Gujarat High Court and currently serving in Patna, is recommended to be appointed as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court.
Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, serving at the Himachal Pradesh High Court, has been recommended for appointment as the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court, where a vacancy is anticipated due to the likely transfer of the incumbent Chief Justice.
These recommendations come as part of the Collegium’s continuing efforts to ensure timely appointments and strengthen leadership in the judiciary across various states. Once approved by the President of India, the judges will assume their new roles and responsibilities in their respective High Courts.
