Supreme Court Collegium Approves Appointment of Advocate Balaji Medamalli as Andhra Pradesh High Court Judge

The Supreme Court Collegium has cleared the name of advocate Balaji Medamalli for elevation as a judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

In a resolution dated January 28, 2026, the Collegium, led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, approved the recommendation during its recent meeting.

“The Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on January 28, 2026 has approved the proposal for appointment of Shri Balaji Medamalli @ M. Balaji, advocate as a Judge of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh,” the resolution stated.

The Collegium’s decision marks a significant step in addressing judicial vacancies in the Andhra Pradesh High Court, where the appointment of experienced members from the Bar continues to be seen as a crucial measure for strengthening the bench.

Balaji Medamalli’s name had earlier been recommended by the High Court Collegium and forwarded for consideration after scrutiny of his professional credentials, standing at the Bar, and overall suitability for judgeship.

Once the central government formally notifies the appointment, Medamalli will join the bench as a puisne judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
