South Korea Court Fines Woman for Pulling Down Male Colleague’s Pants in Public “Prank”

Gangwon Province, South Korea — A 50-year-old woman in South Korea has been fined $2,000 (approximately ₹1.7 lakh) for pulling down the pants of her 20-year-old male colleague in front of others, an act which the court declared as sexual misconduct, despite her defense that it was merely a prank.

The incident occurred on October 3, 2024, at a restaurant where both the woman and the young man were employed. According to court records, the woman pulled down her colleague’s pants in front of other staff members. In the process, his underwear also came off unintentionally, exposing him in public.

The Chuncheon District Court in Gangwon Province rejected the woman’s claim that the act was a harmless joke. The court found the action amounted to sexual misconduct, siding with the victim who reported feeling humiliated and violated. The court imposed a $2,000 fine and directed the woman to complete eight hours of sexual violence prevention education.

While delivering the verdict, the judge noted that the woman had no prior criminal record, showed remorse for her behavior, and had apologized to the victim and his parents while kneeling in court. These factors were taken into account in determining the sentence.
