Sheena Bora Murder Case Trial to Resume Daily from March 10

The long-standing Sheena Bora murder trial is poised to resume on a daily basis starting March 10, following a hiatus of over four months due to the transfer of the presiding judge. The announcement was made by the newly appointed special CBI judge J P Darekar, ensuring the case’s proceedings accelerate after the last significant hearing on October 23 last year.

Sheena Bora, aged 24 at the time of her death, was allegedly killed in April 2012. The prime accused include her mother, Indrani Mukerjea, Indrani’s former husband Sanjeev Khanna, and her then-driver Shyamvar Rai, who later turned approver in the case. According to investigations, Bora was strangled in a car, her body subsequently burnt and disposed of in a forest near Raigad.

The case, which shocked the nation, came to light in 2015 when Rai, arrested in a separate case, disclosed details of the murder. Indrani Mukerjea and Khanna were taken into custody in August 2015, while Peter Mukerjea, media baron and Indrani’s ex-husband, was arrested three months later. All accused have since been released on bail.

The trial officially began in February 2017 after charges were framed against the accused. The court has listed 237 prosecution witnesses, with testimony from over 90 witnesses already examined.
