SC Collegium Approves Elevation of Two Advocates as Judges of Allahabad High Court

New Delhi, March 25, 2025 —In a key development aimed at strengthening the Allahabad High Court, the Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on March 25, 2025, approved the appointment of two advocates as Judges of the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad.

The Collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, has approved the names of:

1. Shri Amitabh Kumar Rai

Both advocates will be elevated to the Bench following the recommendation, subject to clearance from the Central Government.

As of today there are 78 judges appointed in Allahabad High Court against the sanctioned strength of 160.

This move is part of the ongoing efforts to fill judicial vacancies and enhance the functioning of one of the country’s largest High Courts. The Allahabad High Court has been functioning under a significant workload, and the appointments are expected to provide much-needed support in addressing the backlog of cases.
