In a significant development, Samajwadi Party leader and former MLA of Rampur’s Suar constituency, Abdullah Azam Khan, has been granted bail by a special MP/MLA court. The decision marks the end of his 17-month incarceration in Hardoi jail, according to his lawyer.
The bail was granted on Monday by Judge Shobhit Bansal of the MP/MLA special magistrate trial court in a case concerning enemy property registered back in 2020. This case was the last hurdle preventing Abdullah’s release, following a Supreme Court decision on February 10, 2025, that also favored his release.
Zubair Ahmad Khan, Abdullah Azam Khan’s advocate, expressed relief at the court’s decision, stating, “This was the only case pending against him after the Supreme Court granted him bail. Now, with this bail approval, the way for his release is clear.”

The case took a turn when Rampur Police recently attempted to levy additional charges against Abdullah. These efforts were rebuffed by the court, which not only dismissed the police’s plea but also proceeded to grant Abdullah bail.
Abdullah Azam Khan’s imprisonment began following a conviction in a separate case. His father, Azam Khan, a veteran SP leader and former Uttar Pradesh minister, remains incarcerated in Sitapur jail under multiple charges.
