Rajasthan High Court Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma will not hold regular judicial sittings from September 1 to September 5, with the newly finalised roster assigning no bench to him amid continuing protests by lawyers.
Under the revised roster prepared by Justice Sharma, no bench has been constituted with him as a member during the period. Matters that were earlier assigned to the Acting Chief Justice have also been allocated to other benches.
The development comes as lawyers continue to demand that Justice Sharma be divested of his charge and that a permanent Chief Justice be appointed to the Rajasthan High Court.
Lawyers Announce Strike Till September 6
Earlier on Monday, the Rajasthan High Court Lawyers Association announced a complete strike until September 6 following an emergency general house meeting.
The association also resolved to send representations to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and the President of India over the issue.
Advocates at both the Jaipur and Jodhpur benches of the Rajasthan High Court have been protesting against Justice Sharma. At the Jaipur premises, police were called in to disperse protesting lawyers.
During the demonstrations, advocates were seen raising slogans against the Acting Chief Justice, including one accusing him of being a thief.
