The Jodhpur bench of the Rajasthan High Court on Monday extended the interim bail of self-styled godman Asaram, serving a life sentence for raping a minor disciple at his gurukul, till August 29. His bail, originally set to expire on August 12, has been prolonged in view of his deteriorating health.
A division bench of Justices Dinesh Mehta and Vineet Kumar Mathur granted the extension after reviewing Asaram’s recent medical reports. The court noted that he is currently admitted to a hospital in Indore, where his condition is described as critical.
This relief follows a similar order from the Gujarat High Court, which had earlier extended his interim bail in another case till August 21.

The Rajasthan High Court has directed the formation of a medical panel from a government hospital in Ahmedabad to conduct a thorough health assessment. The panel is to include both a cardiologist and a neurologist.
The court has asked for the medical report to be submitted by August 27, two days before his current bail period expires.
