Jodhpur, Rajasthan — In light of the soaring summer temperatures, the Rajasthan High Court has announced a change in court timings for all courts across the state, including the High Court benches and subordinate courts such as those in Bikaner. From April 15 to June 27, courts in Rajasthan will function from 7:30 AM to 1:00 PM.
This seasonal adjustment, rooted in colonial-era tradition, is implemented every year to protect court personnel and litigants from the intense heat, which often exceeds 45 degrees Celsius during peak summer months.
According to the new schedule, judicial hearings will be conducted between 8:00 AM and 12:30 PM. Before and after this period—from 7:30 to 8:00 AM and from 12:30 to 1:00 PM—presiding officers will engage in administrative work such as reviewing files and drafting judgments in their chambers.

A short tea break has also been scheduled from 10:30 AM to 10:45 AM, ensuring that the work environment remains conducive despite the early hours.
Members of the legal fraternity have widely welcomed the decision. Many termed it both practical and humane. Given the harsh climate, working in the afternoon becomes challenging and even hazardous, especially for court staff, litigants, and lawyers.
