The Supreme Court has dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the cut-off marks for the All India Bar Examination (AIBE), which is currently set at 45 marks for general category candidates.
During the hearing, Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud questioned the petitioner about his score. When the petitioner revealed that he had scored 41 marks, CJI Chandrachud remarked, “Please study and come back next time. You could not even get 45. Dismissed”
The bench emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards in the legal profession, asserting that lowering the cut-off would negatively impact the quality of lawyers. This decision underscores the court’s commitment to ensuring that only qualified individuals are admitted to the bar, thereby safeguarding the quality of legal services in India.
