In a significant development, the Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to private petitioners involved in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) disputes. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has sought the transfer of various petitions related to NEET UG, which were originally filed in different High Courts, to the apex court. This follows an earlier session on June 14 when the vacation bench of the top court had issued notices to the parties involved on similar petitions filed by the NTA.
The NTA, represented by advocate Vardhaman Kaushik, urged the bench of CJI D.Y. Chandrachud and Justice J.B. Pardiwala on Monday to transfer this new batch of petitions to the Supreme Court, citing their relevance to the same issue. The bench agreed to issue the notices and tagged these cases for consolidated consideration.
The Supreme Court has announced that it will deliberate on these petitions on July 18, alongside other pending petitions related to NEET UG disputes. The NTA has also requested the bench to halt proceedings currently underway in various High Courts regarding these matters. CJI Chandrachud remarked that once the Supreme Court has issued notices for the transfer of these petitions, the High Courts cannot procedurally advance the hearings.
