NEET 2024: Supreme Court Issues Notice to NTA Over NEET 2024 Irregularities- No Stay on Counselling

New Delhi, June 11, 2024: The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the National Testing Agency (NTA) regarding a plea highlighting irregularities in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2024. The court has sought a response from the NTA by July 8, when the case is scheduled to be heard.

While the court has acknowledged the concerns raised in the plea, it has refused to stay the ongoing counselling process for NEET 2024. The Supreme Court has expressed concerns that the sanctity of the NEET 2024 examination appears to have been affected and has directed the NTA to provide explanations for the alleged irregularities.

The petition, filed by a group of students and parents, alleges that there were discrepancies in the conduct of the examination, including issues with the question paper and the evaluation process. The petitioners have sought a thorough investigation into the matter and a re-evaluation of the results.

The Supreme Court’s decision to issue a notice to the NTA is seen as a significant development, as it indicates that the court is taking the allegations seriously and wants the agency to provide a detailed response to the concerns raised. The NTA will have to submit its response by July 8, when the case will be heard again.

The outcome of this case is being closely watched by thousands of students who have appeared for NEET 2024, as well as by the medical education community. The Supreme Court’s decision is expected to have a significant impact on the future of medical education in India.

In the meantime, the counselling process for NEET 2024 will continue as scheduled, pending the outcome of the court’s investigation into the alleged irregularities.
