A Mohali court on Monday dismissed the bail plea of Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia, who was arrested in a disproportionate assets (DA) case linked to alleged laundering of drug money.
Public prosecutor Ferry Sofat confirmed that the bail plea was rejected on two key grounds: the ongoing investigation and the serious nature of the charges against the former Punjab minister. He added that the court conducted day-to-day hearings for nearly 10 days before reaching its decision.
Majithia, who is presently lodged in New Nabha Jail, Patiala, had his judicial custody extended till August 28 by the court last week.

Majithia was arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau on June 25 in connection with a DA case allegedly involving laundering of over ₹540 crore of “drug money.” According to the FIR, preliminary investigations revealed that the funds were laundered through multiple channels, with Majithia allegedly playing a key role.
The FIR stems from a broader investigation being carried out by a Punjab Police Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the 2021 drug case. In that year, Majithia was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, following a 2018 report of the Anti-Drug Special Task Force.
Majithia had earlier spent more than five months in Patiala Jail before being released in August 2022 after the Punjab and Haryana High Court granted him bail in the NDPS case.
With the bail plea now rejected, Majithia remains in judicial custody as the investigation into the high-profile case continues.
