In a shocking incident at the Hosur court complex, a junior lawyer, Kannan, was stabbed by a court clerk, Anand Kumar, on Wednesday afternoon. The attack, which occurred in broad daylight, has left Kannan critically injured and has sparked protests among the legal fraternity.
According to police reports, the incident unfolded as Kannan, who practices under a senior advocate, was leaving the court complex. Anand Kumar, a 32-year-old clerk, allegedly followed Kannan, initiating an altercation before pulling out a knife and stabbing him. Kannan collapsed on the spot and was rushed to a private hospital by bystanders. He remains in critical condition.
Police sources revealed that the attack might be linked to an earlier dispute. Kannan had reportedly been accused of stalking Anand Kumar’s wife, a fellow lawyer at the court. In June, she filed a complaint at the All Women’s Police Station in Hosur. However, intervention by the lawyers’ association led to the matter being resolved with a warning to Kannan.
On the day of the attack, Anand Kumar is said to have walked directly into Court II of the Judicial Magistrate and surrendered after allegedly stabbing Kannan.
The incident has drawn widespread condemnation from lawyers, who staged a protest against the violence within the court premises. The legal community has demanded strict action to ensure such incidents are not repeated.
Krishnagiri Superintendent of Police P. Thangadurai visited the scene and engaged in discussions with the protesting lawyers to address their concerns.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities focusing on the circumstances leading to the attack and the security lapse that allowed such an incident to occur in a judicial environment.
