The Kerala High Court on Tuesday directed police authorities to provide security to the Indore girl who gained viral internet fame at the Prayagraj Kumbh Mela, following allegations that she is being stalked and her live locations are being shared across messaging platforms.
Advocate P S Anishad, representing the young woman, confirmed that the court impleaded the Station House Officer of the Palarivattom police station and mandated police protection for her until the next hearing scheduled for July 28. The judicial directive followed her application at the Palarivattom police station, in which she cited a threat to her life caused by individuals tracking her movements and circulating her location in WhatsApp groups.
Reinstatement Of Security Measures
The ruling reinstates security provisions that had been recalled earlier this month. On July 10, the High Court vacated an earlier protection order after police informed the bench that the girl could not be located. At that time, the court instructed law enforcement to extend assistance whenever she formally approached them seeking protection.
Background And Ongoing Controversy
The girl originally drew widespread public attention after a video created by a digital content creator featured her selling rudraksh garlands at the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. She later relocated to Kerala and married a man named Farman in a ceremony attended by senior CPI(M) leaders, despite objections from her family.
Following the marriage, her father lodged a complaint with the Madhya Pradesh police asserting that she is a minor. Based on his statements, authorities in Madhya Pradesh registered a case against Farman under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act of 2006, and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act of 1989, including charges of kidnapping.
