The Kerala High Court has dismissed a request by Sunil N S, also known as Pulsar Suni, the prime accused in the notorious 2017 actress assault case, to recall two key forensic witnesses. Justice C Jayachandran described the plea as “frivolous” and aimed at “delaying” the trial, which has seen multiple extensions since it began on January 30, 2020.
The plea sought to re-examine a doctor who collected forensic samples and the Assistant Director of the Forensic Science Laboratory, claiming that Suni’s inability to provide instructions to his lawyer while in judicial custody hindered effective cross-examination. However, the High Court noted that Suni had been present throughout the trial and dismissed the notion that his legal representation lacked sufficient instruction as lacking in sincerity.
The case, which has drawn extensive media attention, involved the abduction and alleged molestation of a well-known actress from the South Indian film industry. The assault, which took place on the night of February 17, 2017, was reportedly orchestrated to blackmail the actress, with the assailants forcibly entering her car and recording the attack.
Currently, ten individuals are implicated in the case, including prominent Malayalam actor Dileep, who was also arrested and later released on bail. The trial has been closely monitored due to its high-profile nature and the involvement of figures from the entertainment industry.
