The Kerala High Court has demonstrated remarkable judicial efficiency in 2024 by disposing of more than 110,000 cases, substantially reducing the backlog and ensuring quicker delivery of justice. This achievement underscores the court’s commitment to addressing the concerns over delays in legal processes and paves the way for more streamlined case handling.
From January 1 to December 27, 2024, the court successfully resolved a total of 110,666 cases, driven by the efforts of its dedicated judiciary. Justice P V Kunhikrishnan led the charge by clearing 11,140 cases, making him the top performer of the year. Following closely were Justice C S Dias with 8,320 cases and Justice Nagaresh with 6,756 cases. Justices Bechu Kurian Thomas and Devan Ramachandran also made significant contributions by disposing of 6,642 and 6,196 cases, respectively.
The collective efforts were bolstered by several other justices. Justice D K Singh resolved 5,140 cases, Justice Mohd Nias cleared 4,872 cases, Justice P Gopinath handled 4,172 cases, Justice V G Arun completed 3,739 cases, Justice Badaruddin resolved 3,435 cases, and Justice Murali Purushothaman concluded 3,059 cases.
The Kerala High Court, which operates with a sanctioned strength of 47 judges, including 35 permanent and 12 additional judges, had 45 judges in service throughout the year. This full complement of the bench has been instrumental in the court’s ability to tackle its caseload effectively.
