Karnataka HC Issues Guidelines on Practice of Magistrates Causally Permitting Police Investigation Into Non Cognizable Offences

In a significant development, the Karnataka High Court has issued stringent guidelines to Judicial Magistrates regarding the granting of permission to the police for investigating non-cognizable cases. The court has sternly cautioned Magistrates against deviating from these guidelines, stating that such deviations would be viewed as a contribution to the already alarming backlog of cases.
