Justice Vibhu Bakhru was sworn in as the new Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court in a formal ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan in Bengaluru. The oath of office was administered by the Governor of Karnataka, officially marking the commencement of his tenure as the head of the state’s judiciary.
The solemn event took place at the Glass House within the Raj Bhavan premises and was attended by a host of distinguished dignitaries. Following the administration of the oath, Chief Justice Bakhru was felicitated by the Governor of Karnataka.
Also present to congratulate the new Chief Justice were the Chief Minister of Karnataka, the Deputy Chief Minister, and fellow judges, including Justice V. Kameswar Rao. The ceremony was also attended by other judges of the Karnataka High Court, senior government officials, and members of the legal fraternity.

Justice Bakhru’s appointment follows a distinguished career, most recently as a senior judge of the Delhi High Court. He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court on April 17, 2013, and subsequently became a Permanent Judge on March 18, 2015. His elevation to the position of Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court comes after a vacancy arose in the office, and his name was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium.
