Justice Ravindra Kumar Agrawal was sworn in as a permanent judge of the High Court of Chhattisgarh on Monday. The oath of office was administered by the Hon’ble Chief Justice of the High Court, Shri Ramesh Sinha, in a formal ceremony held within the Chief Justice’s courtroom. The appointment elevates Justice Agrawal from his previous position as an Additional Judge of the same court.
The ceremony, which commenced at 10:30 a.m., was attended by the sitting judges of the Chhattisgarh High Court, the Advocate General, senior members of the Bar, and officials of the High Court registry.
Background of the Appointment
The appointment of Justice Ravindra Kumar Agrawal as a permanent judge was made by the President of India, exercising the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India. The official notification was issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice, Department of Justice (Appointments Division), on August 8, 2025, confirming his elevation with effect from the date he assumed his new charge.
Judicial Career and Legal Experience
Born on July 31, 1968, in Bhatapara, Chhattisgarh, Justice Ravindra Kumar Agrawal completed his LL.B from Law College, Rajnandgaon, in 1991. He enrolled as an Advocate on September 14, 1992, and commenced his practice in the District Court of Bilaspur and other subordinate courts.
In the year 2000, Justice Agrawal began his practice before the High Court of Chhattisgarh, where he handled a wide array of cases, specializing in civil, criminal, and writ matters. He also served as a Government Advocate for the State of Chhattisgarh from 2017 to December 2018. His legal acumen was further demonstrated through his role as counsel for various institutions, including the Bureau of Indian Standards and the Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagarh. He was also a panel advocate for the High Court of Chhattisgarh.
His journey on the bench began with his elevation as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Chhattisgarh on October 20, 2023. His confirmation as a permanent judge is seen as a significant addition to the strength and functioning of the state’s highest judicial body.
