In an official notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice, the Government of India has appointed Justice Biren Aniruddh Vaishnav as the Acting Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court during leave period of Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal. The appointment has been made under Article 223 of the Constitution of India.
Justice Vaishnav, currently serving as a Judge in the Gujarat High Court, will assume the responsibilities of Chief Justice in the absence of the current Chief Justice, who is scheduled to be on leave from February 18, 2025, to March 2, 2025.
The appointment was formally notified by the Department of Justice (Appointments Division) in an order issued from Jaisalmer House, New Delhi. The notification was signed by Jagannath Srinivasan, Joint Secretary to the Government of India.

Justice Vaishnav’s tenure as Acting Chief Justice will ensure the continued smooth functioning of the Gujarat High Court during this interim period.
