The Kerala High Court recently observed that judges resort to taking help of contempt of court only when comments made against them are beyond the scope of personal attacks and threaten to tarnish the image of the entire judiciary.
These observations were made by the Bench of Justices AK Jayasankaran Nambiar and Mohammed Nias CP while hearing a case where the contemnor did not appear before the court despite court orders.
The bench opined that citizens should keep in mind that judges work under tremendous pressure due to pendency of cases and due to their training and discipline they don’t react to uncharitable and unjustified comments from the public.
While referring to the case at hand, the court noted that a non-bailable warrant has been issued against him as he did not appear.
The court expressed disappointment with the litigants attitude and posted the matter to February 28.
