Heavy rains in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday flooded the Anantnag district court complex, prompting Principal District and Sessions Judge Tahir Khurshid Raina to arrive at the premises in a boat to safeguard judicial documents.
According to court officials, water had entered the ground floor of the building following incessant rainfall. Determined to assess the situation himself, Judge Raina, accompanied by his staff, toured the inundated complex and inspected the extent of the damage.
During his visit, the judge enquired from court staff about potential losses and stressed the importance of preserving official records. He directed immediate relocation of files, documents, and computer hardware used for storage to safer areas. Judge Raina also instructed staff to remain available in case of emergencies.

Several residential and commercial zones in Anantnag and Srinagar districts have been submerged, with low-lying areas particularly affected. District administrations in Anantnag, Kulgam, and Srinagar carried out evacuations, while police deployed rescue teams and launched a coordinated response to ensure residents’ safety and mobility.
