Jharkhand HC Chief Justice Makes Surprise Visit to Shelter Home for Rescued Girls, Orders Stronger Monitoring and Faster Rehabilitation

Jharkhand High Court Chief Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan on Thursday carried out a surprise inspection of Premashray, a government-run home for rescued minor girls in Ranchi, and issued a series of directions aimed at strengthening oversight, improving rehabilitation, and ensuring compassionate handling of the inmates.

The Chief Justice arrived at the shelter home in the evening along with the High Court Registrar General, the Judicial Commissioner, the Director of Social Security, and the District Child Protection Officer (DCPO). During the visit, he held individual interactions with the girls residing at the facility to understand their living conditions and the functioning of the institution.

According to officials present, Justice Chauhan instructed the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) secretary to constitute a team of female officers who will regularly visit the home, speak individually with each girl, and ensure follow-up action wherever required.

He also directed the DCPO to treat the girls with sensitivity and avoid any delays in reuniting them with their families. For children whose parents cannot be traced or are unable to take them back, the Chief Justice asked the DCPO to immediately explore foster care or other suitable alternative care arrangements.

Justice Chauhan further emphasised that no unnecessary procedural barriers should come in the way of girls who are willing to return home, provided their families are also ready to receive them.
