New Delhi, March 21 — The Rajya Sabha on Thursday witnessed a heated debate over serious concerns related to the judiciary, as 55 Members of Parliament submitted a representation regarding controversial comments made by an Allahabad High Court judge and allegations surrounding the discovery of large sums of cash at the residence of a Delhi High Court judge.
Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh made a sharp intervention, stating that “huge amounts of cash have been found at the house of a Delhi High Court judge,” bringing the matter directly into the spotlight of national attention.
In response, the Vice President of India and Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha, acknowledged the gravity of the issues. Addressing the House, he said that he would discuss the developments with both the Leader of the House and the Leader of the Opposition to decide on a future course of action.

With regard to the representation made concerning the Allahabad High Court judge, the Vice President informed the House that he had already initiated verification procedures by sending emails to the signatories. “Only one member has denied their signature,” he noted, adding, “If the number is confirmed to be above 50, I will proceed without any delay from my side.”
The incident has ignited fresh debates on judicial accountability and transparency, with many MPs demanding greater scrutiny of judges and their conduct.
The matter is likely to remain in focus as further discussions unfold in the coming days.
