Inaugural Student Induction Programme Sets the Stage for New Academic Year at Dr. Rajendra Prasad National Law University

Prayagraj, July 27, 2024 –  Dr. Rajendra Prasad National Law University (RPNLU) has concluded its Student Induction Programme, a six-day event held from July 22 to July 27, 2024. The programme aimed to familiarize new students with the university’s academic environment, faculty, officials, infrastructure, and rich cultural heritage before the commencement of regular classes.

The induction programme commenced with a warm welcome from the university, where the Honorable Vice-Chancellor Sr. Prof. Usha Tandon welcomed the students and shared her vision and the university’s objectives with the foundation batch of B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) Programme students. In her address, she provided an academic orientation and encouraged students to inculcate human values that distinguish RPNLU from other National Law Universities (NLUs). She emphasized on the importance and time and discipline in the students life specially who pursue the legal profession. 

During the induction, students were introduced to the institution’s policies, processes, practices, culture, and values. Mentor groups were formed to guide and support the students throughout their academic journey. The programme also included a comprehensive tour of the university’s infrastructure, including the academic block, administrative block, library, and hostels.

A highlight of the induction was the outreach learning experience, where students visited various historically and judicially significant sites in Prayagraj. These included the Museum and Archives of Allahabad High Court, Anand Bhawan, Shaheed Chandrashekhar Azad Park, Central Sanskriti University, Allahabad Public Library, Sangam, and other important locations. These visits enriched students’ understanding of the socio-cultural and historical significance of Prayagraj.

The university also organized lectures by eminent scholars to enhance the academic richness of the induction programme on the underlying principles of the Constitution and the importance of constitutional values in promoting citizen welfare and the development of an inclusive society. A lecture on human values guides individuals’ behavior and decision-making, fostering trust, integrity, and empathy, and are implicitly recognized by the Constitution of India.

To ensure the inclusive and comprehensive growth of students, RPNLU has established various committees, including the Moot Court Committee, Legal Aid Committee, Internship & Externship Committee, Debate and Discussion Committee, Sports Committee, and Culture Committee. These committees organized several activities during the induction programme, allowing students to demonstrate their cognitive and cultural competence.

The valedictory session of the Student Induction Programme was held on the evening of the July 27, 2024. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Honorable Mr. Justice Ram Manohar Narayan Mishra, Judge of the High Court of Allahabad, as the Chief Guest. He emphasized the importance of dedication and hard work for achieving success in the legal profession. Justice Mishra also elaborated on the fundamental principles of the legal system, namely the idea of justice, the rule of law, constitutionalism, and constitutional morality.

Honorable Mr. Justice Mayank Kumar Jain, Judge of the High Court of Allahabad, honored the session as the Special Guest of Honour. Justice Jain urged the students to set an example for future batches by being punctual, dedicated, and disciplined, qualities he deemed essential for success. He also highlighted the significance of legislation and its pragmatic approaches to addressing emerging issues.

Prof. A. P. Singh, Vice Chancellor of RMLNLU, enriched the session as the Guest of Honour. Prof. Singh underscored the importance of practice and emphasized that attention to small details contributes to human perfection. He advised the students that humility and language proficiency are crucial for success in any profession.

Honorable Vice-Chancellor Sr. Prof. Dr. Usha Tandon accentuated three underlying principles for academic and professional excellence: Discipline, Punctuality, and Attentiveness. She stressed the importance of positive contributions from the students to enhance the institution’s academic standards.

The distinguished guests also released the workshop report of the International Online Workshop on Integrated Legal Education, held from July 3 to July 7, 2024.

The successful conclusion of the Student Induction Programme marks the beginning of a promising academic journey for the new students at Dr. Rajendra Prasad National Law University, Prayagraj. The university remains committed to fostering an environment of academic excellence and holistic development.
