Himachal Pradesh High Court Directs Provision of Drinking Water to Himachal Pradesh Villages

The court of Chief Justice MS Ramachandra Rao and Justice Satyen Vaidya has emphasized the urgent need to provide drinking water to the residents of several villages in the tehsil of Chaupal, Shimla district, Himachal Pradesh.

The villages include Shila, Badlog, Shapra, Kot, Nahar, Thalog, Gagna, and Bagana, where locals have long been grappling with water scarcity.

During the proceedings, the court remarked, “We cannot keep people thirsty,” thereby highlighting the fundamental right to water. The court instructed that the respondents, Executive Engineer Nerwa and Superintendent Engineer Rohru-4, be notified through the office of the Advocate General.

The next hearing on this matter is scheduled for July 8. This directive follows complaints from local residents about the quality of the ongoing water scheme project, which they claim has failed to alleviate their hardships effectively.
