Bilaspur, 9 January 2026: A farewell ceremony was organised today at the High Court of Chhattisgarh, Bilaspur, in honour of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Deepak Kumar Tiwari on the occasion of his superannuation . Hon’ble Mr. Justice Deepak Kumar Tiwari is scheduled to retire on 10 January 2026, and as today marked the last working day of the week, the farewell ceremony was held at 3:30 p.m. in the Court Hall of the Hon’ble the Chief Justice.
On this occasion, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ramesh Sinha, the Chief Justice of the High Court of Chhattisgarh, in his eloquent address, highlighted the distinguished Judicial career of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Deepak Kumar Tiwari. His Lordship lauded his profound legal acumen, impartiality, administrative efficiency, and unwavering commitment to the rule of law, and extended his best wishes for a fulfilling and meaningful post-retirement life.
Hon’ble the Chief Justice observed that throughout his tenure, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Deepak Kumar Tiwari was widely respected for his clarity of thought, balanced approach, and deep regard for constitutional values. His judicial conduct, marked by dignity, discipline, and institutional respect, served as a source of inspiration for young Judicial Officers . His judgments reflected not only sound legal reasoning but also a humane understanding of justice, thereby strengthening the justice delivery system.
During the ceremony, Mr. Vivek Sharma, Advocate General, Mr. Rajesh Kesharwani, Administrator, High Court Bar Association, and Mr. Ramakant Mishra, Deputy Solicitor General, also addressed the gathering. They expressed deep appreciation to Hon’ble Mr. Justice Deepak Kumar Tiwari, recalling his exemplary judicial conduct, deep legal insight, courteous demeanour, and meaningful contribution to the justice delivery system. The speakers extended their best wishes for his healthy, peaceful, and fulfilling post-retirement life.
During his judicial career, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Deepak Kumar Tiwari disposed off more than 10,000 cases, including 141 Approved for reporting (AFR) judgments. These figures reflect not merely numerical achievement but his consistent dedication to judicial responsibility and constitutional principles.
Hon’ble Mr. Justice Deepak Kumar Tiwari, in his address, expressed heartfelt gratitude to God, the Hon’ble Judges, his family members, Judicial Officers, Colleagues, Advocates, and the entire High Court Fraternity, and shared his experiences from his long Judicial journey.
It is noteworthy that Hon’ble Mr. Justice Deepak Kumar Tiwari was born on 11 January 1964 at Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh. He obtained his B.Com., LL.B., and LL.M. degrees from Raipur and, in 1987, became the first student of Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur, to earn an LL.M. in Constitutional Law. He commenced his Judicial service in 1990 as a Civil Judge (Class-II) and served at various places including Jagdalpur, Sarangarh, Janjgir, and Rajnandgaon. He also served as District and Sessions Judge at Rajnandgaon and Balod, becoming the first District and Sessions Judge of Balod district.
Hon’ble Mr. Justice Deepak Kumar Tiwari discharged several important administrative responsibilities in the High Court, including that of Registrar General. He was appointed as a Judge of the High Court on 08 October 2021 and took oath as a permanent Judge on 31 July 2023.
The ceremony was attended by the Hon’ble Judges of the High Court, family members of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Deepak Kumar Tiwari , the Advocate General, Office -bearers of the High Court Bar Association, the Deputy Solicitor General, Senior Advocates, Members of the Bar, the Principal Secretary, Law and Legislative Affairs Department, the Registrar General, Officers of the Registry, Judicial Academy, State Legal Services Authority, Judicial Officers, Administrative and Police Officers, as well as Officers and Staff of the High Court.
