The Nainital High Court has given the green light to the State Public Service Commission to proceed with the recruitment process in accordance with the law in a case related to hiring in the Horticulture Department. The decision was announced during a hearing before a division bench comprising Chief Justice Ritu Bahri and Justice Rakesh Thapliyal.
The case involved Arvind Chauhan and 66 other candidates from Tehri who had filed a petition challenging an advertisement issued in October 2021 for filling 637 vacant positions in the Agriculture and Horticulture Department, which required a BSc in Horticulture. However, the petitioners had obtained a BSc in Agriculture with courses related to horticulture.
Following High Court intervention, a new advertisement was issued in October 2023. On March 19 of this year, the court settled the writ petition and instructed that a subsequent advertisement would be issued after the authorities made a final decision on amending the notification. This came shortly after the selection process had been completed on March 14.
