The Supreme Court of India is set to hear a petition filed by Hemant Soren on May 13. Soren has challenged a Jharkhand High Court ruling that upheld his arrest. The High Court, on May 3, dismissed his earlier petition, stating that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had sufficient evidence, thus validating the arrest.
Hemant Soren filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) against this order in the Supreme Court. Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, representing Soren, requested an expedited hearing from the Chief Justice of India two days ago. The case has been listed for hearing on the upcoming date. Soren was arrested by the ED on January 31 and has been in custody since.
