The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing on Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia’s plea challenging his arrest and remand in a disproportionate assets case. The next hearing has been scheduled for August 26.
The matter was listed before the bench of Justice Tribhuvan Dahiya. During the proceedings, Majithia’s counsel sought four weeks’ time to file an amended petition. Accepting the request, the court deferred the matter accordingly.
Majithia had initially moved the high court on July 1, questioning the legality of his arrest by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau on June 25 and his subsequent judicial remand in connection with a ₹540 crore disproportionate assets case. His legal team had earlier sought time to amend the petition during a previous hearing on July 8, a request reiterated on Tuesday.

In his plea, Majithia has alleged that the case is politically motivated, branding it as an act of “political witch-hunting and vendetta” in retaliation for his outspoken criticism of the current Punjab government.
The case against Majithia traces its roots to a larger investigation linked to a 2021 narcotics case under the NDPS Act. That case was registered based on a 2018 report by the anti-drug Special Task Force. Majithia was previously incarcerated for over five months in Patiala jail before being granted bail by the high court in August 2022.
