Gujarat HC Sets Up Medical Facility For Lawyers, Clerks and Litigants

In view of the guidelines issued by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India for providing emergency measures such as Ambulances, Medical facilities, etc. in Court complexes in All India Judges Association & Ors. v. Union of India & Ors. vide order dated 02.08.2018 [I.A.No.279/2010] as also in the order dated 11.08.2023 in Pradyuman Bisht Vs. Union of India & Ors. [Writ Petition (Cri.) No. 99 of 2015], the Chief Justice and the Judges of the High Court of Gujarat, with the commendable cooperation and support of the Health Ministry of the Government of Gujarat have set up a medical facility to cater to the medical needs of the staff members, Ld. Advocates, Advocate clerks, security personnel and litigants etc.

A dedicated medical facility at the Entry Gate No. 5 of the High Court of Gujarat was inaugurated on 09/11/2023 by Hon’ble Health Minister of the Government of Gujarat Mr. Rushikesh Patel in the presence of Hon’ble the Chief Justice of the High Court of Gujarat Mrs. Justice Sunita Agarwal and all the companion Judges of the High Court. The medical facility is well equipped with services of Medical Experts (including M.D. Doctors) in the disciplines of Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, General Medicine, Ayurveda, Homeopathy, etc. and visiting experts.

This Medical Facility of primary and secondary level in the precincts of the High Court, aims to I. provide examination, consultation, prescription to patients, including dispensing of medicines by a single / general practitioner / specialist doctor / super specialist doctor in Allopathy, Homeopathy, and Ayurveda and a Yoga & Wellness Centre to deliver health services of rehabilitative nature;

II. provide for a few minor procedures like dressing and administering injections etc. III. provide observation/short stay in emergency, IV. deliver primary services in health education and health promotion, and to deliver healthcare services of rehabilitative nature, etc. having regard to raising the level of nutrition and the standard of living and improvement of health of the beneficiaries. The Government of Gujarat accorded necessary approval and allocation of medical equipment in addition to deputation of Medical Officers of various disciplines such as OPD for General Physician, Gynecologist, Orthopaedic, Ayurveda, Homeopathy, as also for Physiotherapy Centre and Yoga and Wellness Centre at the High Court of Gujarat. The center is also equipped with wheelchair facility for facilitating specially abled visitors to reach to the desired place in the precincts conveniently. 

The occasion also coincided with the release of Polo golf cart, a battery operated vehicle for senior citizens and specially abled people to access to the nearest location of the Courts and Administrative Buildings in the campus from the public entry gate.

This is a landmark welfare measure to cater to the health and medical needs of all the stakeholders visiting the Court premises, including staff, Advocates and litigants.
