New Delhi — Former Chief Justice of India (CJI) D.Y. Chandrachud has vacated the official residence at 5, Krishna Menon Marg, which is reserved for the serving Chief Justice and their family. The keys to the bungalow were handed over to the concerned department on Friday, a month after the Supreme Court administration sent a letter to the central government requesting that the residence be vacated.
Justice Chandrachud has now shifted to a government-allotted bungalow on Teen Murti Marg. Renovation work at the new residence is currently being carried out by the Public Works Department (PWD) and is expected to take two to three weeks to complete.
According to sources, the delay in relocation was due to specific family requirements. Justice Chandrachud’s two daughters are children with special care needs, and finding a suitable residence that could accommodate those needs proved to be challenging. The newly allotted house is being modified to meet those specific requirements.

The move to vacate the CJI’s official residence aligns with established norms and reflects adherence to constitutional propriety and institutional protocol.
